Vail and Beaver Creek Mountains are known internationally for their world class skiing and snowboarding. Vail is the largest and most popular single-mountain ski resort in North America, offering an amazing 4,644 acres of skiable terrain on 174 trails. From the easy greens on the Northwest Bowls, to the challenging steeps in the Back Bowls, Vail has more variety to offer than any other ski mountain in the world. Blue Sky Basin, opened in the 1999-2000 ski season, with 885 acres of additional terrain complements the existing Back Bowl experience, known for its famous powder runs.

Elegant Beaver Creek Resort is only a 15-minute drive from Vail and offers more of Colorado's best skiing. Beaver Creek is home to America's famous Birds of Prey Downhill course that has proven to be one of the toughest stops on the Men's Alpine World Cup Tour. Beaver Creek Mountain is also connected to Arrowhead and Bachelor Gulch in North America's only Village-to-Village ski experience.

Vail and Beaver Creek offer ski and snowboard lessons, snowshoe tours, cross country and telemarking lessons, terrain parks to round out the winter activities.

VAIL REIGNS AS NO. 1 SKI RESORT IN NORTH AMERICA
ACCORDING TO 2004 SKI MAGAZINE READER SURVEY

Vail Mountain has ranked as the Number 1 ski resort in North America for the third consecutive year, according to SKI magazine's annual readers poll.  Vail has been chosen as the No. 1 ski resort in North America again in 2004 for a total of 13 out of the past 17 years.

According to the October 2004 issue of SKI magazine, Vail again reigns at No.1, having held this position 13 of the 17 years that SKI has been conducting its annual readers' survey. Beaver Creek made the biggest jump out of all five resorts, moving to the No. 4 position. This marks the second time in three years that Beaver Creek has broken the top five.  SKI Magazine's readers rank North America's top 60 resorts, choosing from more than 300 ski resorts nationwide.

"For thirteen years, Vail has captured the Number 1 spot as the best ski resort in North America, by raising the industry bar and exceeding the expectations of our customers year-in and year-out. No other resort in North America has consistently achieved this level of excellence for such a long period as 'king of the hills'," said Adam Aron, chairman and CEO of Vail Resorts.

Year after year, North America's largest single-mountain ski mountain continues to provide numerous resort improvements for an incomparable guest experience.

On tap for the 2004-2005 season at Vail, corduroy lovers can take advantage of 33 percent more grooming with the addition of 10 new snowcats.

For those who prefer untouched terrain -- there's still 4,000 acres available for exploration.

Golden Peak benefits from a more water and energy efficient snowmaking system, as well as beginner and intermediate terrain has been re-contoured for better snow management and easier descents.

A new stone and steel bridge will welcome skiers and riders across Gore Creek at the base of LionsHead, replacing Vail's original skier bridge. The new structure is one of the first projects to launch Vail's New Dawn, an ambitious, multi-year plan that includes $500 million in redevelopment projects in both Vail Village and LionsHead.

Vail Mountain's 2004-05 Season dates are November 19, 2004 - April 17, 2005

VAIL RESORTS LAUNCHES FIRST OF SEVERAL PROJECTS
AS PART OF $500 MILLION "VAIL'S NEW DAWN"

Vail Resorts has officially kicked off $500 million in redevelopment projects in Vail Village and LionsHead with the groundbreaking of a new street-level park and an underground parking structure, located within walking distance of both the Vista Bahn Chairlift and Golden Peak base area. The purpose of this first project, a new public park and parking garage, is to help alleviate congestion in one of the oldest areas of Vail Village and create a more aesthetically pleasing surface area that fits with the neighborhood. Additional projects of Vail's New Dawn, include new residential and commercial development, including a new RockResorts luxury hotel at the base of Vail's Eagle Bahn Gondola.

"This groundbreaking marks the commencement of 'Vail's New Dawn,' a series of redevelopment projects in Vail Village and LionsHead totaling more than $500 million over the next five years. After years of discussion and planning, these projects, once completed, will help to ensure Vail's future as the preeminent ski resort in North America. As impressive, these projects are expected to generate a significant increase in real estate, lodging and ski-related profitability in the next several years." said Adam Aron, chairman and chief executive officer of Vail Resorts.

Over the summer, crews will excavate 40 feet on the half-acre site, which is adjacent to the Christiania Lodge, and prepare it for construction of 109 underground parking spots. Once completed, the structure also will hold approximately 25 street-level parking spaces for guests of the Christiania and a fully landscaped park that can be enjoyed by guests and residents alike. Of the 109 spaces currently available for private purchase, 101 have already been purchased by neighboring residents. Each space, deeded fee simple, is listed at prices of $100,000 or $135,000. Vail Resorts, pending the Town of Vail's approval, also has the ability to build an additional eight spaces underground.

The park and parking garage project is one of several planned projects by Vail Resorts Development Company in Vail Village and LionsHead over the next five years. The "Vail Front Door" project in Vail Village includes a new skier services facility at the base of the Vista Bahn Chairlift, a new spa and additional accommodations at the Lodge at Vail, new Lodge at Vail Chalets for purchase, and a luxury ski club. The redevelopment of LionsHead encompasses a new European-inspired pedestrian plaza and village complete with a RockResorts luxury resort hotel, new skier services, restaurants and shopping, an outdoor ice rink, enhanced streetscape, a new skier bridge and new residential opportunities.

Most ski resorts are lucky to have one bowl. Vail isn't most resorts. There's a reason why we say "there is no comparison"

At Vail, we're blessed with seven natural bowls.  Our soft, dry powder snow stretches over 6 miles wide and our legendary Back Bowls represent just one-third of Vail's total terrain.

  • Vail's Back Bowls span over 2,966 acres and offer an unparalleled powder paradise. The views are spectacular and the runs last forever!
  • In 1957, while searching for the ideal location for a ski resort, Vail's founder Pete Seibert, took one look at this place and said simply "This is it."

The Terrain Parks for Snowboarders!

Vail continues to step-up its commitment to it's parks and pipes and this year is no exception. Vail again raises the bar for other resorts to follow!

Golden Peak Terrain Park Highlights
  • Pro and local riders alike continuously praise the Vail Superpipe. Pipe riders find the 18' walls a challenge, while the nightly grooming and Zaugg Pipe Monster assures consistency.
  • A variety of medium to larger jibs, rails and hits are scattered throughout the park each designed to flow into the next section.
  • The Jib Park is like a "park within the park", enclosed in a glade of trees, riders can spend a day sliding and hiking all different kinds of rails and jibs. It is the ultimate hangout for park rats.
  • Multiple take-offs and landings, some with rail options, make the jump sections as challenging as you want them to be.
  • High-speed quad access from the Golden Peak base area guarantees a quick, comfy ride.
Design and Maintenance
  • Park designer,  Stephen Laterra builds and maintains the Golden Peak Terrain Park using the natural topography of the run.
  • New this season, the revolutionary Zaugg Pipe Monster ensures a consistent and perfectly shaped Superpipe at the top of the Golden Peak.
  • Another key tool for grooming the terrain park to perfection is Pisten Bully's terrain park snowcat the Park Bully.
  • Under Stephen's direction, the Parks and Attractions crew hand rake and shovel features daily for your enjoyment.

Mule Skinner and Bwana Terrain Parks

  • These parks feature small hits and rails - great for learning the basics of freestyle progression or trying a new trick.
  • Mule Skinner can be accessed from the Riva Bahn Express (Chair 6), one trail over from the Golden Peak Park.
  • Bwana can be found under the Eagle Bahn Gondola (Lift 19) above LionsHead.

What's New in Beaver Creek

Beaver Creek Jumps Four Positions in
Ski Magazine's Annual Reader Survey!

According to the October 2004 issue of SKI magazine, Beaver Creek made the biggest jump out of all five VRI resorts, moving to the No. 4 position. This marks the second time in three years that Beaver Creek has broken the top five. Vail again reigns at No.1, and all five of Vail Resorts' ski mountains ranked in the readers' poll top 20. SKI Magazine's readers rank North America's top 60 resorts, choosing from more than 300 ski resorts nationwide.

New Lifts Enhance Village-to-Village Experience
Beaver Creek enhances its village-to-village skiing and snowboarding experience with the addition of two high-speed quad chairlifts and the creation of an alternative entry point for Beaver Creek Mountain known as Beaver Creek Landing for the 2004-2005 season.  The new lift system is expected to improve skier and rider circulation on the mountain and reduce traffic on Village Road; the main road to Beaver Creek Village.

Grooming
Known as a leader in the industry for its long-standing commitment to grooming, Beaver Creek has expanded its grooming efforts by 50 percent over the past three years.  Four new snowcats will join the fleet and provide roughly 80 additional hours of grooming each day.  Working 20 hours per day with double passes and noon grooms, crews will focus on preparing more advanced terrain and grooming the majority of beginner and intermediate slopes daily. That means wrinkle-free corduroy will carpet approximately half the mountain's terrain each day.

Park-ology
Beaver Creek's Parkology program is back for a second season.  This innovative park and pipe program features progressive learning terrain and weekly instruction for aspiring freeskiers and riders, ages three to 17, through the resort's Children's Ski and Snowboard School. .

Included in the program are three terrain parks; an entry level park located on upper Sheephorn called Park 101, a progressive entry level to more difficult level park called Zoom Room and a more difficult to expert level park and half-pipe called Moonshine. In addition to the new terrain features, the resort will provide special park instruction for skiers and riders with beginner to intermediate level park experience, and who want to progress toward intermediate and expert park level skiing and riding. The resort will also introduce beginner and intermediate level learning competitions to help aspiring jibbers hone their skills and become more comfortable in a competitive setting.

  • Park 101: This entry level park will feature rollers, dots and other terrain features that will allow lower level riders/skiers of all ages to learn weighting and unweighting of boards/skis.
  • Zoom Room: Zoom Room is a progressive entry level to more difficult park, which begins with smaller, introductory features, such as rollers, small tables and small rails, and moves to progressively larger features and rails throughout the trail/park.
  • Moonshine Terrain Park and Pipe: Moonshine Park is designed to be user friendly for intermediate to expert skiers and riders looking to improve their skills on a wide variety of features, including tables, hips, spines, rails, logslides and a learning half-pipe.

World Cup Returns to Beaver Creek
